Artistic ability, a marked instinct for colour and a deep sensitivity are the prerequisites for art, according to Harald Kastlunger. And it is above all the colourfulness of his fantastic realism works – which Kastlunger has made available for our Designer wallpapers range – that impresses: luminous blue, red and green backgrounds teem with giants, witches, knights and other mythical figures. Kastlunger draws his inspiration for these paintings from the ancient myths and legends of his South Tyrolean homeland.

The colours are striking in Kastlunger’s abstract works as well, with a gleam of cobalt blue on a delicate background here, a bright red radiating out from a grey/brown background there. A number of works are reminiscent of Malevich with their geometric shapes and reduced colour, while in others Kastlunger shows us a total explosion of vivid colour. Because the motifs Kastlunger has selected for our Designer wallpapers are so varied, they offer a wide and varied range of possibilities. Lovers of abstract art will find their dream wallpaper here, whether the preference is for monochrome or flamboyant colour, strictly geometric or lively and bubbly images. And the paintings from the mythical world work perfectly not just as colourful decoration in children’s rooms, but also as attention-grabbing art wallpapers in all other rooms.
Designer wallpaper - Der Traum des Fischers - Harald Kastlunger
The South Tyrolean artist, Harald Kastlunger, has had an unusual career that has taken in church music, confectionery and art at various stages of life. Although art has been part of his life since his early youth, it was only in 1989 that Kastlunger decided to dedicate himself wholly to his works. Since then, Kastlunger has painted for the sheer passion of it. He surrenders to the moment and tries to put onto the canvas whatever is preoccupying him at the time – without the head getting in the way. The subjects of his works of art reflect whatever is occupying Kastlunger at the time: it might be “Tuscany”, “Garden Wedding” or equally “Mathematics” or an entire series on “Fukushima”. As well as his abstract paintings, a great deal of his oeuvre is taken up by works of fantastic realism. Here, not only does Kastlunger process his dreams, he also works predominantly with ancient legends and fairytales from South Tyrol.
